AMPED PLUGINS

How do I get a "Request Key" to buy Amped Plugins and why do I need it?

Everyone needs to install the free trial of the Amped Plugin in question before purchasing a full license. The trial version has a "License Manager" window which includes your computer specific "Request Key". Just copy and paste it onto the product page and check out. Also, this enables you to try Amped before buying it, to make sure that it runs smoothly on your system.

I bought a full license for Amped. Where’s my license?

You should be emailed a license code very shortly after purchasing. If you’ve not received it within an hour of purchasing, check your spam/promotions folders.

I reinstalled Amped, now my license code is invalid. How do I get a new license?

Send us an email using the contact form, and let us know the product you’ve purchased, your original order number, and the new unique request key from the trial version of the Amped Plugin in question.

Where did Amped get installed?

Run the installer again, it’ll show you the location of each installed file. If you’re having trouble getting your DAW to locate Amped, please ensure that you’ve selected the correct path to the plugin in the Plug-In Settings menu of your DAW.

Why am I not getting any sound out of the Standalone?

Please check that the input and output device is set correctly in the Audio/MIDI settings menu, and ensure that the “Mute Output Audio” checkbox is unchecked. Most of our offerings feature an L/R switch on the main window of the amp, this is usually below the input knob, or just below the amp - this will let you select the left or right input of a stereo interface. If you’re on Mac, and you’re still having issues, head to System Preferences - Security and Privacy - Privacy - Microphone - check the box next to Amped.

Why isn’t Amped working in my DAW?

Amped is currently offered in three formats; VST, AU, and AAX (Mac only). If your DAW doesn’t support these formats, you may still be able to get Amped working with a plugin wrapper program. Most of the popular DAWs have been updated for VST3 support, so try updating your DAW. Most DAWs should have a plug-in manager within the preferences menu. Head to this menu, and hit the “rescan” button. If your DAW doesn’t have a rescan button, you’ll need to locate the plugin files manually. Lastly, if you’re on Windows, please ensure that you’re using 64-bit plugins with 64-bit Windows, and 32-bit plugins with 32-bit Windows.

How do I update Amped?

To update, simply install the trial version over the top of your existing download, and it’ll automatically update, keeping your license code intact. You should receive an email notification when a new update is available, but if you’ve got any doubts, there’s no harm in installing the trial again.

Can I use Amped in Pro Tools?

Amped currently has Pro Tools support for Mac, but Windows AAX support is not available at this time.

Where’s the .dll/VST2.4 files?

Steinberg has dropped support for VST2 and does not permit licenses for new companies to develop other than VST3 plugins. Read more about it here.

How do I get rid of latency, or pops and clicks?

Your latency, as well as the pops and clicks, are mostly going to be based on your buffer size. The lower your buffer size, the lower your latency will be - too low, and you’ll experience nasty pops and clicks. Find the balance - raise it just enough that the pops and clicks cease, and you should end up with super low latency. If you’re using Windows, first make sure that you’re using ASIO drivers. These will give you optimum performance for audio use.

How do I set the input gain for the best tone?

Our Amped plugins all feature a signal light near the input knob. This light is not a clip light, it’s a healthy signal light. This light should be blinking while you’re playing. If the light doesn’t come on at all, raise the gain. If the light is on solidly, it’ll act more like a clean boost in front of the amp - experiment with turning the gain down a little bit.

How do I load IRs in Amped?

All of our Amped series of plugins have the ability to load IRs. The method will be different depending on which plugin you’re using, but we’re hoping to unify them with updates in the future. If you’re on Mac, please ensure that you’ve first copied and pasted your IRs into the User/Music folder. This is due to Apple’s security measures.

Roots/Ark/Super Duper/ML5/Burger

These plugins all feature IR loading through the “IR” text on the cabinet switch. Hit this text, and a pop-up will appear allowing you to select your own IR.

ML800 and Stevie T both feature a drop-down box, accessible directly from the “Cab” switch. Hit the Cab switch, then select “Load Custom IR”.

All other Amped Plugins

Our latest plugins offer the ability to load multiple IRs, and even blend between them. Hit the “Cab” box at the bottom of the main window, and you’ll be taken to the Cab page. The boxes under “Speaker 1” and “Speaker 2” have a drop-down box - click this, then hit “Load Custom IR”. You’re able to do this for either side, then use the “Mix” knob in the centre of the window to blend between them.

How can I install Amped on my Helix, Fractal, or.. mobile phone?

Amped is an amp sim line of computer programs that are currently compatible with Windows and Mac as standalone programs and plugins. It can not be loaded on third party devices.

Can I buy just one MIKKO Plugin cabinet and what happened to the full version of the MIKKO Plugin?

The previous "full version" MIKKO Plugin was originally launched as a 9 cabinet plugin suite. Immediately after its launch we started getting tons of requests for more cabinets. Instead of charging for expansion packs we wanted to make it so that if you wanted to get only one cabinet that would be also possible so the previous full version MIKKO is now known as "MIKKO Essentials" and it's the full version for those 9 cabinets just like the all the other packs are full version MIKKO Plugins with just one cabinet. So yes - you'll get access to our next-generation cabinet simulator by purchasing just one of the MIKKO Plugins.

How do I get my MIKKO license to work on my computer?

Once you've purchased a full version of the MIKKO Plugin you'll receive a confirmation email with download links and your license. Please install the software and once you open the MIKKO, enter your license into the "License Manager" of the MIKKO. You'll need to restart the plugin and you're good to go. If you're having issues with your license please contact support and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Can I load IRs into the MIKKO Plugin?

Loading a single IR file into the MIKKO is like asking if a streaming service can play your old tapes. The answer is "no" because the MIKKO Plugin is not an IR loader - it's a next-generation cabinet simulator where you're able to scroll through thousands and thousands of IRs in a matter of seconds. It's not using automated filters or EQ tricks to simulate mic movement - it actually gives you real microphone captures in 3D space. This requires a very serious systematic IR capture process for the simulation to work so not even our own Cab Packs are designed to work with the MIKKO.

Will MIKKO work on my Mac?

The current version of MIKKO requires MacOS 10.11 or later. 10.10 or 10.9 is not supported. Most Macs that run 10.9 can also run 10.11 as they support pretty much the same hardware, however MIKKO requires quite a bit of memory to run. Older machines with 2 GB of memory might not run MIKKO that well. If you're still having issues you may need to allow MIKKO access to your audio device from Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Microphone.

What does MPT mean?

MPT stands for minimum phase transform, the majority of IRs out there at the moment are MPT'd as it is used to time align IRs with each other. The down-side to using MPT is that it removes all phase information of the IR and is therefore slightly less realistic which becomes more evident once you start mixing IRs. The regular ML Sound Lab IRs are our own superior format that is both raw and time aligned so you can mix them together and they still retain the phase information that would be deleted if we opted to use MPT. Only the people who want to mix ML IRs with other vendors IRs should use the MPT feature when exporting from MIKKO.

IR CAB PACKS

Do ML Sound Lab Cab Packs / Impulse Responses work on my device?

ML Sound Lab impulse responses are provided in a raw .wav format that works with every device or program that supports IRs. The list of devices grows every month so please check your manual in case your device is not listed on our product page. Remember that some devices use their own IR format f.ex. Fractal Audio uses the .syx format which we aren't allowed to include in the packs. These companies usually provide a free conversion program f.ex. Fractal Audio has the Cab-Lab 3 Lite that'll do the job.

What are the MPT folders inside the Cab Packs?

MPT stands for minimum phase transform, the majority of IRs out there at the moment are MPT'd as it is used to time align IRs with each other. The down-side to using MPT is that it removes all phase information of the IR and is therefore slightly less realistic which becomes more evident once you start mixing IRs. The regular ML Sound Lab IRs are our own superior format that is both raw and time aligned so you can mix them together and they still retain the phase information that would be deleted if we opted to use MPT. Only the people who want to mix ML IRs with other people's IRs should try the MPT folders to avoid phase issues.

Which kHz / bit folder should I use?

Many of the current modelers use different sample and bit rates. F.ex. Fractal Audio = 48kHz 24bit, Line 6 Helix = 48kHz 16bit, Kemper = 44.1kHz 24/16bit which is why IRs are provided in several formats to ensure compatibility. Please refer to your device manual to ensure you're using the correct sample rate. The specific modeler folders are shortened to 200ms in hopes of ensuring a safer conversion that may happen inside the modelers when importing IRs. If you're using IRs in a digital audio workstation with an IR loader we recommend matching your project settings.

What does A, B, C, D, E and the mix names stand for in the Cab Packs?

ML Sound Lab .wav IR Cab Packs offer 5 brightness variations for every microphone going from a dark sweetspot called "A" to a bright almost dead center sweetspot called "E" and the letters in between "B", "C", and "D" enable you to virtually move the mics in between those two sweetspots to find exactly what you're looking for. IR mixes are too complex to explain with just a few characters and we want to keep the recipes to ourselves as it's the signature ML Sound, therefore we decided to give the IR mixes names. They're in alphabetical order as in the first one is always our top pick.

CRASHES AND ERRORS:

Request key cannot be saved or fetched. Licensing won’t work

This is a very rare circumstance, where the settings in the plugin have corrupted. Open Registry Edit (stock app on Windows), and locate the Amped product you’re struggling with. From there, just delete the settings file. When you reinstall it, you won't have the issue.

"The plugin failed to load because no valid authorisation could be found"

This error means that your operating system is out of date. You’ll need to update to a more recent operating system in order to use our products.

AMP AND ARTIST PACKS:

Unfortunately, we made the decision to remove all Amp Packs and Artist Packs from our store. With the constant firmware updates sometimes on a weekly basis from each hardware company, and new product lines from other companies, we simply couldn’t keep all of the packs up-to-date and up to our standards. Rather than focus our time on keeping old products updated, we instead need to focus on our own first-party products instead (Amped, MIKKO and IR Cab Packs).
