FAQ

AMPED

I bought a full license for Amped. Where is my license?
Our store sends out all full licenses directly to the email you provided in the purchase. It should be in your email inbox. Also check your spam folder as we're experiencing a lot of traffic.
I'm having problems with my install. Where did Amped get installed?
Amped Roots was recently updated to 1.0.2 and it now has an installer that explains all file locations and creates shortcuts on your desktop. Please re-download the updated version. If you're still having problems be sure to enable VST3 in your DAW and refresh your plugin list. It's also recommended to update your DAW as f.ex. Reaper has fixed many of their own bugs recently that caused issues with Amped.
How do I update to the newest version of Amped?
Everyone who downloaded Amped Roots Free will get an email notification about new updates with download links. Even if you're a full license user you need to install the free version to update your full version - your Amped will remain the fully licensed version. If you can't find the update email simply re-download Amped Roots Free.
Does Amped work with Pro Tools / AAX?
Amped has Pro Tools AAX support for Mac. Windows AAX support is not yet available.
Why is Amped not VST2.4 and only VST3?
Steinberg has dropped support for VST2 and do not permit licenses for new companies to develop other than VST3 plugins. Read more about it here.
Why am I not getting sound out of Amped?
Please make sure you have your input connections set correctly with your guitar going into your audio interface and the Standalone Options menu or DAW settings have the correct ins and outs selected. By default the Amped standalone input is muted to avoid a feedback loop, be sure to uncheck the mute box. Also if your audio interface has the instrument input on the second input, please click the L/R button underneath the INPUT knob to enable the right hand side input. Mac users may need to allow Amped access to your audio device from Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Microphone.
How can I get rid of latency or pops and clicks?
Your audio interface has a buffer setting. Turning it lower will also lower the setting but be careful not to go too low, when set too low you will get pops and clicks. You may want to use ASIO drivers to get the maximum performance. We've tested Amped so that it can get lower than 10ms and run smoothly even on older computers.
The tone seems "meh and lifeless" - is this normal?
One thing we can't make easy is how users run their signal into Amped. Be sure to raise the input knob and don't be afraid to see a red light blink. It's a signal indicator that should be blinking when you're running signals correctly. If it's constantly on when you're playing then you have it set too high, it needs to blink. Just like with real amps if your signal is coming in too low you will get a tone that's not optimal while having the input level too high will work like a clean boost to the amplifiers. We're already designing an easier input level system and hope to have it out soon.
How can I install Amped in my Helix, Fractal or.. mobile phone?
Amped is an amp sim line of computer programs that are currently compatible with Windows and Mac as standalone programs and plugins. It can not be loaded on third party devices.
How can I load my IR's into Amped?
There's a small "IR" text next to the cabinet section of Amped. Click it to open an IR load dialogue.
I'm having issues with my Request Key and License. Can you help?
ML licensing works with a computer specific "Request Key" that you need to insert on the full license product page to be able to purchase a license. Please make sure that the Request Key is COPIED from Amped and not the Mikko plugin. Also to avoid issues with confusing 1 with I and 0 with O, please copy and paste the Request Key. Once you've received your full license via email simply copy and paste it to your Amped License Manager and you should be all set.

CAB PACKS

Do ML Sound Lab Cab Packs / Impulse Responses work on my device?
ML Sound Lab impulse responses are provided in a raw .wav format that works with every device or program that supports IR's. The list of devices grows every month so please check your manual in case your device is not listed on our product page. Remember that some devices use their own IR format f.ex. Fractal Audio uses the .syx format which we aren't allowed to include in the packs. These companies usually provide a free conversion program f.ex. Fractal Audio has the Cab-Lab 3 Lite that'll do the job.
What are the MPT folders inside the Cab Packs?
MPT stands for minimum phase transform, the majority of IR's out there at the moment are MPT'd as it is used to time align IR's with each other. The down-side to using MPT is that it removes all phase information of the IR and is therefore slightly less realistic which becomes more evident once you start mixing IR's. The regular ML Sound Lab IR's are our own superior format that is both raw and time aligned so you can mix them together and they still retain the phase information that would be deleted if we opted to use MPT. Only the people who want to mix ML IR's with other people's IR's should try the MPT folders to avoid phase issues.
Which kHz / bit folder should I use?
Many of the current modelers use different sample and bit rates. F.ex. Fractal Audio = 48kHz 24bit, Line 6 Helix = 48kHz 16bit, Kemper = 44.1kHz 16bit which is why IR's are provided in several formats to ensure compatibility. Please refer to your device manual to ensure you're using the correct sample rate. The specific modeler folders are shortened to 200ms in hopes of ensuring a safer conversion that may happen inside the modelers when importing IR's. If you're using IR's in a digital audio workstation with an IR loader we recommend matching your project settings.
What does A, B, C, D, E and the mix names stand for in the Cab Packs?
ML Sound Lab .wav IR Cab Packs offer 5 brightness variations for every microphone going from a dark sweetspot called "A" to a bright almost dead center sweetspot called "E" and the letters inbetween "B", "C", and "D" enable you to virtually move the mics inbetween those two sweetspots to find exactly what you're looking for. IR mixes are too complex to explain with just a few characters and we want to keep the recipes to ourselves as it's the signature ML Sound, therefore we decided to give the IR mixes names. They're in alphabetical order as in the first one is always our top pick.

MIKKO PLUGINS

How do I get a "Request Key" to buy MIKKO Plugins and why do I need it?
Everyone needs to install the free MIKKO Player before purchasing any of the full version MIKKO Plugins. The MIKKO Player has a "License Manager" window which includes your computer specific "Request Key". Just copy and paste it onto the product page. This enables you to purchase the MIKKO Plugins that you want and mix and match them inside the same program. Also this enables you to try the MIKKO Plugin before buying it and making sure that it runs smoothly on your system.
Can I buy just one MIKKO Plugin cabinet and what happened to the full version of the MIKKO Plugin?
The previous "full version" MIKKO Plugin was originally launched as a 9 cabinet plugin suite. Immediately after its launch we started getting tons of requests for more cabinets. Instead of charging for expansion packs we wanted to make it so that if you wanted to get only one cabinet that would be also possible so the previous full version MIKKO is now known as "MIKKO Essentials" and it's the full version for those 9 cabinets just like the MIKKO ORNG, MIKKO BGNR UBER and MIKKO Mars Silver are all full version MIKKO Plugins with just one cabinet. So yes - you'll get access to our next-generation cabinet simulator by purchasing just one of the MIKKO Plugins.
How do I get my MIKKO license to work on my computer?
Once you've purchased a full version MIKKO Plugin you'll receive a confirmation email with download links and your license. Please install the software and once you open the MIKKO, enter your license into the "License Manager" of the MIKKO. You'll need to restart the plugin and you're good to go. If you're having issues with your license please contact support and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Can I load IR's into the MIKKO Plugin?
Loading a single IR file into the MIKKO is like asking if a streaming service can play your old tapes. The answer is "NO" because the MIKKO Plugin is not an IR loader - it's a next-generation cabinet simulator where you're able to scroll through thousands and thousands of IR's in a matter of seconds. It's not using automated filters or EQ tricks to simulate mic movement - it actually gives you real microphone captures in 3D space. This requires a very serious systematic IR capture process for the simulation to work so not even our own Cab Packs are designed work with the MIKKO.
Can I use the MIKKO Plugin with Pro Tools?
The AAX version of MIKKO is still in beta along with many new updates. The plan is to get Pro Tools support during 2020 but until then we recommend trying VST wrappers. It's no AAX substitute but for the time being it works quite well.
Will MIKKO work on my Mac?
The current version of MIKKO requires MacOS 10.11 or later. 10.10 or 10.9 is not supported. Most Macs that run 10.9 can also run 10.11 as they support pretty much same hardware however MIKKO requires quite a bit of memory to run. Older machines with 2 GB of memory might not run MIKKO that well. If you're still having issues you may need to allow MIKKO access to your audio device from Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Microphone.

AMP PACKS & ARTIST PACKS

Why am I having problems loading the presets to my device?
There could be many reasons for this but the most common one is that you're not using the latest firmware for your modeler. Fractal Audio users know that there's a new firmware update every two weeks or so which means the majority of users are running different firmware versions and sometimes there are compatibility issues so please use FracTool if you're having issues using Axe-Edit. If you're running the latest Kemper firmware and still have issues please try installing the profiles with an USB memory stick.
I've installed the presets but why is there no sound?
All ML Sound Lab Amp and Artist Packs are designed to run an IR as the cabinet section. All packs come with IR's dedicated to the specific pack so be sure to also install the cabinets to the correct cabinet slots that's being used in the presets. Otherwise you will not get any sound going through the Cab Block or IR Block.
Why do all the tones sound so similar through my guitar cabinet?
Your guitar cabinet is one of the powerful guitar tone shaping tools and anything going through a real cabinet will sound like that cabinet. Artist Packs are not designed to be used with real cabinets, they're completely designed to be direct tones. Amp Packs work very realistically with neutral solid state power amps going through real guitar cabinets, just remember to bypass the IR/Cab Block when doing so.
